Trade headaches

Raptors finding it difficult to unload McGrady

Inside the NBA - Stephen A. Smith

Philadelphia and Toronto are not talking as much these days about a deal that would send Raptors' forward Tracy McGrady to the 76ers.

But the Lakers might be interested in him. L.A. is looking for a small forward and is willing to unload Glen Rice to get a deal done. Toronto's dilemma? Both Rice and McGrady will be free agents this summer -- so it may simply be trading one contract headache for another. Toronto would also have to give up more than McGrady in any deal for Rice. On top of all that, the Raptors do not want to deal with Rice's agent, David Falk.

Hornets abuzz about losing Eddie Jones

Speaking of free agency, everyone appears to have forgotten about Charlotte Hornets guard Eddie Jones. He passed on signing for the maximum $70.9 million this summer, leaving him eligible to go where he pleases once July rolls around -- and that has some people in Charlotte worried. "There's nothing to be concerned about," Jones said recently. "I love Charlotte. This is where I want to be." Don't expect the Hornets to feel secure until he's signed.

Something fishy in the Windy City?

Something interesting is going on in Chicago involving forward Toni Kukoc. He is out with what the Bulls are calling back spasms -- even though they've said they aren't sure what's wrong with him. He hasn't played since Nov. 9, but wasn't placed on the injured list until Dec. 8. The belief from numerous league sources is that Kukoc, who is from Croatia, is determined to leave the NBA and return to Europe once his contract expires after this season. Perhaps that's why the Bulls have had difficulty unloading him.
