Bucks' Tim Thomas isn't going anywhere

Inside the NBA - Stephen A. Smith

All the talk you heard a week ago about the Milwaukee Bucks trading forward Tim Thomas was just that -- talk. Even though Thomas is a free agent at the end of the season, one Bucks source said, "We're not even thinking about trading away Timmy. We think he fits in very well with this team."

The Bucks were interested in Wizards center Ike Austin, and they were even willing to consider giving up forward Robert "Tractor" Traylor. But Thomas is definitely not on the trading block.

Spurs looking for help

Here are a few reasons the San Antonio Spurs had lost four of six games heading into last weekend: age, desire and Sean Elliott's absence. "They're one of the league's oldest teams," one source close to the team said. "Because of it, their sense of urgency has dissipated, somewhat, and they really miss Sean. They don't have a legitimate small forward to guard anyone or to create his own offense."

That explains why the Spurs have talked with the Raptors about acquiring guard Doug Christie in the past couple of weeks. And why they won't stop talking, probably, until the trading deadline passes next month.

Charlotte's Jones may be heading south

You already know that Eddie Jones, a free agent this summer, probably won't re-sign with the Hornets, and that he has a desire to head to Miami. But at least one other team in Florida has expressed an interest in the Charlotte guard: the Orlando Magic. Sources say the Magic would love to get their hands on Jones. I guess Orlando feels it has as good a chance as anyone, since Jones is originally from Pompano Beach, Fla.

Iverson still an Olympic possibility

By the way, although Allen Iverson wasn't picked for the Olympic squad, he still has an outside chance of making the team. Apparently, there's a degree of uncertainty about whether Miami Heat guard Tim Hardaway will participate in the games because of his knee problems. If he elects to pass on the games in Sydney, it could come down to Iverson, New Jersey's Stephon Marbury or Eddie Jones.

Stephen A. Smith covers the NBA for the Philadelphia Inquirer and is a regular contributor to CNN/SI.
