Knicks could go on shopping Spree Posted: Friday June 09, 2000 07:13 PM
Remember all the fuss going on during the Eastern Conference Finals, when Knicks coach Jeff Van Gundy didn't like Latrell Sprewell saying the team played better without Patrick Ewing ? Well, a source in the Detroit Pistons organization tells me he would not be surprised to get a call from the Knicks, offering Sprewell to the Pistons for Grant Hill . The deal is doable, straight up, before July 1 because the two players' salaries match. If the Pistons think Hill is planning on leaving Detroit, they might be willing to make the trade if the Knicks agree to later add Marcus Camby to the mix, either for Loy Vaught or Christian Laettner , both of whom have worn out their welcome in the Motor City.
Raptors want MutomboJust as he did throughout last year's offseason, Toronto coach Butch Carter is trying to get his hands on Hawks center Dikembe Mutombo in a deal that could include Raptors forward Charles Oakley . Will he succeed? Who knows? Mutumbo is in the last year of his deal, and Atlanta is in position to get more attractive offers, possibly from the Phoenix Suns. Nobody checked with ShareefThere's been a lot of talk about Shareef Abdur-Rahim demanding a trade from the Vancouver Grizzlies before the summer is over. Abdur-Rahim says he was assured by owner Michael Heisley that he would be consulted before the team chose a new coach, but that president Dick Versace never consulted Abdur-Rahim before he and new GM Billy Knight hired new coach Sidney Lowe . Knight said he isn't aware of any such discussions and, because of that, it was inappropriate for him to respond. But he did say that both he and Lowe have talked with Abdur-Rahim in recent days and everything seems "absolutely fine." Stephen A.
