Kramer sweats out Friday

Most of us will be comfortable Thursday, enjoying our Thanksgiving. But one fella, BCS guru Roy Kramer, will have a tough time stomaching the feast as he contemplates what could happen Friday. That's when Kramer could end up starting to look like a turkey.

Boston College, fresh off pounding Notre Dame, travels to Blacksburg to face Virginia Tech. Two fairly equal offenses. Tech QB Michael Vick is No. 1 in the Big East in total offense, and BC's Tim Hasselbeck is No. 2. And little known Eagles RB Cedric Washington is for real.

The problem for BC is defense. The Eagles allow an average of 380 yards a game. That's what seperates the Hokies from any team in college football. I challenge you to find a weakness on that team. Tech by 17.

Oh its nice to say Nebraska at Colorado and actually have the game mean something. After getting spanked at the beginning of the season trying to run the ball, Colorado is now throwing and playing well. Quarterback Mike Mochetti is the catalyst and Colorado is second in the big twelve in passing at 300 yards a game. However, they also give up 25 points and 350 yards a game. Like Virginia Tech, Nebraska will take care of business.

Now here's why Kramer is nervous. Despite not playing last week, BCS number three Nebraska rose nearly two points in the rankings, coming within decimal points of unbeaten Virginia Tech. Both teams will win Friday, which should keep the rankings the same.

But Nebraska would then take on Texas, ranked No. 9 in the BCS, in the Big 12 championship game. And a win would likely catapult the one-loss Huskers past the unbeaten Hokies.

BCS supporters say "Well, that's exactly why the BCS was instituted. Techs strengh of schedule is a paltry 66th compared to Nebraska's 21st."

But come on. The BCS's Dunkel index has Nebraska ranked first. That's right, one-loss Nebraska ranked higher than Florida State and Virginia Tech. Or how about the Seattle Times ranking Virginia Tech fifth with Alabama and Kansas State ranked higher.

Let me give you some realsitic rationale -- from a Nebraska alum. Virginia Tech is the best team in college football and could beat anyone on a neutral field. If the Hokies stay unbeaten, and don't play in the Sugar Bowl, you can take the C out of the BCS.
