Settle down, Pac-10 fans

The Pac-10 is back! I mean did you see what USC did to Penn State last weekend? The Trojans blew out the Nittany Lions 29-5, in what was essentially a home game for Joe Pa.

But upon closer look, the reality is that USC beat a bad Penn State team that's replacing nine defensive starters, including the first two picks in the last NFL draft.

Rashard Casey just might get suspended now that he went 7 of 24 for a measley 106 yards.

Trojan QB Carson Palmer finished 10 of 20 for 87 yards and a pick, while three others were dropped by Penn State's secondary. Plus, Penn State's best player, wide receiver Eddie Drummond, went out on the game's third play.

So, this was no bigger than Florida State beating BYU.

UCLA will bring the Pac-10 back to earth this weekend with a humiliating home loss to Alabama.

Tide receiver Freddie Milons is the nation's best pure athlete and will dominate against an inexperienced Bruin secondary.

Then there's toughness. UCLA just can't handle 'Bama, physically.

Maybe next year Pac-10.

I-AA's best will have trouble with 'Dawgs

Touted Division I-AA running back Adrian Peterson of Georgia Southern averaged more than seven yards a carry last season. But Saturday against Georgia, he hits the big time, and the 'Dawgs defense will be barkin'!

Gary Gibbs is Georgia's new defensive coordinator, and told me they have gone back to basics, like knowing where to line up. Besides, Peterson won't be facing the Wofford Terriers, or the Elon Phoenix.

Georgia will hold Peterson under 100 yards.

Gamecocks win? Maybe not

Can a team with the nation's longest losing streak -- 21 games -- really suffer an upset?

Just watch.

New Mexico State will beat South Carolina in Columbia.

Stop laughing. The Aggies beat Arizona State at their place last year, and head coach Tony Samuel has his most talented group yet.

The Gamecocks have marked this one down -- but they'll end up marking down another loss.
