Titanic

When Kevin Dyson dashed 75 yards down the sideline on a kickoff return to lift the Tennessee Titans to a last-second 22-16 victory over the Buffalo Bills in the 2000 AFC wild-card playoff game, it instantly went down as one of the most thrilling endings in NFL history. The stunning play even got its own nickname: The Music City Miracle.

Sports Illustrated's 50th Anniversary
Tennessee's three-part harmony

To understand Tennessee sports, says Volunteer State native Pat Summitt, you have to understand how the state's trio of so-called grand divisions -- East, Middle and West Tennessee -- differ. The Lady Vols' legendary coach sings the praises of her home state's trio of distinct regions. And SI.com digs into the Sports Illustrated archives to find photos, Famous Faces in the Crowd and other significant moments in Tennessee sports history.
