Row, Row, Row Your Boat

The Craftsbury Outdoor Center in Vermont offers activities ranging from mountain biking to yoga. It was the facility's world-renowned sculling camp, however, that drew the interest of Sports Illustrated back in 1994. Among Craftsbury's instructors are former Olympians and world champions, who teach rowers of all skill levels.

FLASHBACK
1997: Vermont Made
John LeClair of the Flyers has become a force at power forward and a hero in his home state
John LeClair, who at one time in his career didn't have a prayer of being an NHL star, scored a goal from his knees last month. Maybe you saw it. The tally made nearly all the television highlight packages, even the ones that usually show just the fights.

SI COVERS
Classic SI cover Snow and snobbery In 1963, SI ran an account of a weekend at Sugarbush, calling the resort "a glittering Vermont ski spa" which had "carefully cultivated an aura of jet-set snobbery that makes the insiders who ski there feel way out and the outsiders who have never dared the place feel out in the cold."

Snowboarding
Vermont is the cradle of snowboarding, and the U.S. Open, first held here in 1982, is the oldest and rowdiest competition in the sport. SI's Ed Swift details how the Green Mountain State helped launch snowboarding into the mainstream. And Vermont native Alexander Wolff explains that his home state is grittier than its image suggests. Plus, SI.com digs into the Sports Illustrated archives to find photos, Flashbacks and other significant moments in Vermont sports history.
