Orel Hershiser of the Los Angeles Dodgers ended the 1988 regular season by stringing together 59 consecutive scoreless innings, breaking the 20-year-old major league record set by Don Drysdale. Hershiser's three postseason wins and one save were key factors in the Dodgers' World Series upset of the Oakland A's.
