Tyson/Norris Round-by-Round Update

2Referee Richard Steele called time to delay the start of the round. He beckoned Dr. Flip Homansky into the ring to look at Norris. Norris' corner claimed he was injured, and Homansky went across the ring to talk to members of the Nevada Boxing Commission, then returned to Norris' corner.

The fight was stopped.

Orlin Norris hurt his knee at the end of the first round and the bout was declared a no contest.

Ring announcer Jimmy Lennon said the fight was stopped "after an accidental foul" and that it was officially declared a no contest.

The stoppage of the fight was greeted with loud boos from the crowd in the MGM Grand Garden, which was the scene of Tyson's third-round disqualification for biting Evander Holyfield's ears on June 28, 1998.

As soon as the fight was stopped, a host of security personnel flooded the ring.

1Tyson came out and landed a jab and missed a jab. Norris threw a left that was blocked. The two circled and Norris backed away.

Tyson missed a big right hand at 30 seconds. Tyson was putting on the pressure, but no telling punches were landed in the first minute. Tyson missed another big right hand. Norris continued circling. Norris missed a big right hand and landed a right at mid-round.

Action slowed nearing two minutes. Tyson landed a right to the head and Norris landed a right. Tyson got in another right. After several seconds, they clinched, then clinched again. Norris got in a short left to the head. Tyson hit on the break and was warned.

Tyson landed a short left hook to the jaw after the bell rang and Norris went down. Norris got up and went to his corner. Tyson was penalized two points by referee Richard Steele.
