LAS VEGAS, MAY 8, 1993: Rather than face No. 1 contender Lewis in a mandatory challenge, undisputed heavyweight champ Riddick Bowe threw his WBC belt in the trash in December 1992. The WBC then conferred its title on Lewis, who, in his first defense, won a unanimous 12-round decision against Tony Tucker (left).
