Tyson meeting with Denver therapist Posted: Thursday September 17, 1998 01:12 PM
DENVER (AP) -- Mike Tyson, who is to go before the Nevada Athletic Commission on Saturday in his effort to regain his boxing license, has been meeting with a Denver psychotherapist for the past week. The Rocky Mountain News reported that Tyson has been undergoing a psychological evaluation by Dr. Carlos Fontanez, whose report on Tyson's mental state will be used to lobby for the former heavyweight champ's reinstatement. Tyson had his license revoked for life, with a chance to reapply after a year, by the five-member Nevada commission a year ago after biting reigning champion Evander Holyfield's ears in their title fight June 28, 1997. Fontanez declined comment, telling the News: "I'm not confirming anything and I really resent you calling." Marc Ratner, executive director of the Nevada regulatory board, said he was aware of Tyson's trip to Denver and speculated that he "is probably looking for the best psychologist in the country."
