'I'm scared' Houston police to continue Moceanu murder-for-hire investigationPosted: Saturday December 05, 1998 11:20 AM
HOUSTON (CNN/SI) -- "I'm scared. I know he is capable of hurting himself or somebody around him." Those are the words of Olympic gold-medal gymnast Dominique Moceanu, speaking about her father on Friday with CNN/SI. The Houston Police Department said Friday it is keeping an investigation open into charges that Moceanu's father has been stalking her and was planning to have her friend Brian Huggins and her coach, Luminita Miscenco, murdered. Dominique made those charges against her father in an affidavit filed last month in Houston. A source in the Houston Police Department tells CNN/SI that Dumitru Moceanu is heard on an audiotape "soliciting somebody for murder." However, the source says no charges have been filed because there is not enough evidence. The tape is "damning," he says, if not necessarily "incriminating." Dumitru Moceanu has denied the charges through an attorney. Dominique told CNN/SI that her father claims she and Huggins are "having a relationship." "I want people to know that I am telling the truth," Moceanu says "This story should be focusing on the fact that my father tried to get [someone] to kill my coach and my friend." A temporary protective order keeping Dumitru Moceanu away from his daughter was granted Monday. A temporary restraining order keeping both of Dominique's parents away from the Huggins family was granted a day later.
