LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Richard Migliore, who guided Wheelaway to fifth-place finish in the Kentucky Derby, was suspended for a week by Churchill Downs stewards on Wednesday for what the track deemed careless riding during the race.

Migliore, who races out of Belmont Park in New York, was suspended from May 13-19.

Wheelaway stalked the lead for much of Saturday's race. As the horses made their final turn and entered the stretch, Wheelaway contended for the lead. But near midstretch, the horse drifted toward the rail and bumped Captain Steve, who then brushed China Visit on the inside.

China Visit finished sixth, a head behind Wheelaway. Captain Steve finished eighth and came out of the race with some skin torn off from his heels, according to his assistant trainer, April Mayberry.

Fusaichi Pegasus avoided the trouble and won the race.
