LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Gary Stevens, who won the Preakness aboard Point Given, plans to ride at England's showcase Royal Ascot meeting next month.

The Hall of Fame jockey said Tuesday that he won't be abroad very long.

"I'm going for four days, the Royal Ascot meeting," he said via cell phone during a round a golf. " ... I'm going for a little vacation, my wife's from over there. I'm going to ride from the 19th of June to the 22nd, I've got a few rides."

Stevens, scheduled to ride Point Given in the Belmont Stakes on June 9, will be taking part in the Queen's Royal meeting, one of the most prestigious in the world.

"It's four days of great racing, they're all big races," he said.

The victory aboard Point Given was the second Preakness win and seventh Triple Crown triumph for the 38-year-old Stevens, who retired from racing in December 1999 for 10 months because of arthritic knees. He returned to riding last October.

Stevens, who won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness aboard Silver Charm four years ago, rode for British trainer Sir Michael Stoute in England for three months in 1999, winning the Edinburgh Handicap at Royal Ascot aboard Blueprint.

Stevens has won the national earnings title twice, most recently in 1998 with $19,358,840. He has ridden 4,596 winners in his career.
