CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand (AP) -- Australia won its third consecutive world netball title on Saturday, edging New Zealand 42-41 after the home side squandered a six-goal lead. Missed shots in the final 10 minutes cost New Zealand, including goalshooter's Donna Loffhagen's miss when she had a chance to win the match on a penalty shot seconds from fulltime. After the miss, Australia scrambled the ball towards their circle, with third-quarter replacement Sharelle McMahon shooting the winner as the umpire was preparing to blow the whistle for fulltime. In other results Saturday, England beat Jamaica 57-43 in the match for third place. The United States beat Northern Ireland 62-39, Canada edged Wales 58-57, Malawi downed Singapore 62-52, Samoa defeated Barbados 67-42, the Cook Islands beat Trinidad & Tobago 64-54 and South Africa beat Fiji 57-49. The results left Jamaica in fourth place and South Africa fifth and Fiji sixth. Elsewhere it was: Cook Islands (7) 64, Trinidad & Tobago (8) 54; Samoa (9) 67, Barbados (10) 42; Malawi (11) 62, Singapore (12) 52; Canada (13) 58, Wales (14) 57; United States (15) 62, Northern Ireland (16) 39.
