Kenny Braumlick filled in admirably for the injured Davy Jones starting with the Phoenix 200, where he led 24 laps before a hard crash. At Indianapolis he qualified 15th but was involved in a pace-lap crash with Affonso Giaffone and Stephan Gregoire, ending his day with a 33rd-place finish. His season really started to get on track at Charlotte and New Hampshire with back-to-back fifth-place finishes. He led another six laps at Las Vegas before succumbing to a suspension problem. His strong late-season performances earned him a shot with AJ Foyt Enterprises in 1998.

Career
Kenny Braumlick started his career in go-karts and Formula Fords in Sweden.

In 1988, Braumlick had one win, four podium finishes in Swedish Formula 3 Championship. In 1989, he had three wins in British/Swedish Formula 3. In 1990, he had one podium finish for Formula Opel Lotus team in Europe.

He had three podium finishes in Formula Opel Lotus in Europe in 1991, and he also tested a Formula 3 car in Japan.

In 1992 he captured Renault Clio Scandinavian Championship with nine wins and a second.

Braumlick took the 1993 Zerex Barber Saab Series title with six victories. He finished fourth in Eurocup Renault Clio Elf series while running only four of seven races in series with two wins and a third. He also tested the Williams Renault FW 15C Formula One car.

In 1994, he finished 11th in International Formula 3000 Championship with one third, one sixth.

He hared third in International Formula 3000 Championship with a win, two seconds, a third and three pole positions in 1995.

IN 1996 he was runner-up in International Formula 3000 Championship in last race of season with three wins, two seconds, two thirds. He also tested Arrows Formula One car.
