Jack Hewitt

1998 Driver Profile
Jack Hewitt passed the first three phases of his Rookie Orientation Program at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in April with the Crest Racing team, even though he didn't have a specific ride lined up for the Indianapolis 500. In early May, PDM Racing announced that Hewitt would replace John Paul Jr. in its primary ride and will drive at least Indy and possibly more races.

Career
Hewitt's 25-year racing career has resulted in two USAC Silver Crown series championships (1986, '87) along with a Rookie of the Year title (1981) and an all-time record for victories at 20. He ranks third on the list of USAC sprint car feature victories with 42 and has won 58 All Star Circuit of Champions winged sprint car races.

In 1996, Hewitt passed his Indy Racing League driver's test at Phoenix International Raceway with PDM Racing, but the team didn't have an opening. Buy 1998 he had not particpated in an Indy-car.
