Billy Roe started only three races in the IRL in 1996-97. His first came in Phoenix with Eurointernational Inc., when he finished 15th after a wreck. He also crashed at his first Indianapolis 500 after 110 laps, finishing 22nd. Roe did not return until the finale at Las Vegas, when he finished 13th for Roe Racing. Roe returned to the IRL for D.B. Mann Motorsports for the first 1998 event at Orlando, but failed to qualify. Roe has signed on with Team Scandia and will drive the team's second entry in the Indianapolis 500.

Career
|
Billy Roe spent the first five years of his life in a home not too far outside the third turn of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Roe started his driving career in go-karts and progressed through the ranks of
stock cars, midgets, super modifieds, sprint cars, Formula Fords, Continentals and Atlantics, and Can-Am cars.
After a seven-year absence from racing, Roe returned in Formula Atlantic cars at Phoenix in 1991. He was quick from the get-go but ran only a few races a year.
He currently owns and operates a book store in Mesa, Ariz.
