CONCORD, N.C. -- Bill Elliott became the first car to leave the Coca-Cola 600 when he lost oil pressure.

"Something stripped the teeth off the oil pump belt and [the car] lost pressure," he said, "and that's it."

Elliott looked strong early, even leading one lap. Her raced in the top five much of the race and was seventh when on Lap 122 he encountered trouble.

"I went down the front straightaway and the oil pressure was fluctuating," he said. "When I went up the back straightaway it came down and I just cut it off."

By then, it was too late and Elliott's night was over.
