Not tuning in Jarrett's Daytona victory scores an 8.4 ratingPosted: Friday February 25, 2000 04:36 PM
NEW YORK (AP) -- CBS' television ratings for the Daytona 500 were its lowest since 1993. Dale Jarrett's victory Sunday got an 8.4 rating and 22 share, the network said Friday. That was 12 percent below the 9.6/25 for last year's race and the lowest for a race not affected by rain since 1993, when Daytona got an 8.4/23. CBS has aired the Daytona 500 since 1979 but won't show the race for at least the next six years. Fox will broadcast the race in 2001 as part of NASCAR's new six-year, $2.8 billion deal, which also includes NBC and TBS. The season-opening Daytona 500 will alternate each year, with NBC getting it in even years and Fox in odd years. The rating is the percentage of TV households in the United States tuned to a program, and each point represents 1,008,000 homes. The share is the percentage tuned to a broadcast among those televisions in use at the time.
