Early release Matsuda scheduled to be out of the hospital this weekPosted: Monday May 22, 2000 09:05 PM
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Hideshi Matsuda, injured in a crash during practice for the Indianapolis 500, was in good condition at Methodist Hospital Monday following surgery on his right wrist and left knee. Matsuda, 45, also suffered a slight concussion in the crash on Sunday and is expected to be released from the hospital sometime early this week, Dr. Henry Bock said. Matsuda spun through the third turn and hit the outside wall with the left side of his car. He also crashed, without injury, during practice on Friday and on a warmup lap before a qualification attempt Saturday. After the hard hit against the wall on Sunday, his car slid backward across the track and stopped at the entrance of the fourth turn. Matsuda, a veteran of four Indy 500 starts, underwent surgery Sunday night.
