CONCORD, N.C.-- If manufacturers of the HANS device haven't got enough drivers singing their product's praises, they can now count on Buckshot Jones.

Jones walked away with just a cut on his chin after his car struck the wall on the second lap of the No Bull Sprint. The crash was eerily similar to the one that claimed the life of Dale Earnhardt at the Daytona 500, with the speeding car shooting up the track and the right front blasting into the concrete wall.

"I thought it was gonna be worse than it was," said Jones, as he stopped to look over his mangled car. "It really scared me. I knew it was going to hit hard.

"After it hit and I was still awake, I was 'Wow, alright.' It was relief."

Several crew chiefs and drivers, including Jimmy Spencer, stopped by Jones' car in the garage after the race to look at his safety equipment.

It was the first race Jones wore this particular head-and-neck restraint system after having experimented with another manufacturer's safety device. His team had also recently put in extended headrests, which are intended to limit his movement in a crash.

"Everything worked pretty good," Jones said. "I'm fortunate."
