DARLINGTON, S.C. -- The weekend's shortened schedule at Darlington was compressed even more on Saturday when heavy morning fog forced the cancellation of qualifying for Sunday's Carolina Dodge Dealers' 400.

Winston Cup teams were scheduled to get their first practice of the weekend early Saturday morning, but was pushed back with fog making the grandstands invisible from the infield area.

However, with the Busch Series SunCom 200 scheduled for a 1 p.m. EST start, there was no time to fit in the Winston Cup qualifying.

Owner points will determine the starting lineup, putting current leader Jeff Gordon on the pole and Dale Jarrett at No. 2.

Top Qualifiers
Pos.  No.  Driver
1.  24  Jeff Gordon
2.  88  Dale Jarrett
3.  29  Kevin Harvick
4.  10  Johnny Benson
5.  40  Sterling Marlin

Last week's winner, rookie Kevin Harvick will start third, as his team's points include those earned by the late Dale Earnhardt at Daytona, as well as those earned by Harvick in the past three weeks.

Four races into the season, this was the first week that 2001 owner points were to be used in determining the lineup and provisionals, which was a break for some of the new teams, including Casey Atwood's No. 19 Dodge.

Atwood missed last week's race at Atlanta when he had no provisional to fall back on after failing to get into the field based on speed. He will start 32nd this week.

Three drivers, Andy Houston, Rick Mast, and Dave Marcis, did get the short end of the stick though, and will head home without even having an opportunity to get on the track.
