Another option? Latest speculation links Rudd to Wood Brothers teamPosted: Friday August 16, 2002 6:46 PMBROOKLYN, Mich. (AP) -- The Ricky Rudd saga took another twist Friday, with persistent speculation in the Winston Cup garage that he would move to the Wood Brothers' No. 21 team next season. Eddie Wood, co-owner of the team, did nothing to discourage such talk, saying he'd love to have Rudd in his Ford. "We've said from day one that we weren't signing anybody until Ricky Rudd had signed somewhere," Wood explained at Michigan Speedway, where the circuit races Sunday in the Pepsi 400. Earlier speculation had the 45-year-old Rudd driving a third car for owner Chip Ganassi in 2003 with sponsorship from Chevron/Texaco. But two news conferences to announce Rudd's plans were canceled, leaving his future in limbo. A published report in National Speed Sport News on Friday indicated that Rudd would drive for Ganassi next season. A spokesperson for Ganassi denied the report, calling it "inaccurate and incorrect" in a statement. "I still assume Rudd's going with Ganassi, but we won't do anything until Rudd's in somebody's seat," Wood said. If Rudd does go with the Wood Brothers, he could wind up swapping rides with Elliott Sadler, who reportedly will take Rudd's place at Robert Yates Racing. M&M's, expected to sponsor the Sadler-Yates team, has an announcement scheduled for Sunday.
