Sports Illustrated's Mark Bechtel takes a weekly look at who's hot and who's not in the world of motor sports.

Gearin' Up

Lycos.com: Decided less than 24 hours before the green dropped to sponsor Johnny Benson's Pontiac, then got some serious air time when he led the 500 in the waning laps.

Bill Elliott: Bad showing Sunday, but his victory in the first qualifying race Thursday showed that he might be on to something with his three-headed monster crew chief idea.

Ford: The 2000 Taurus is unbeatable, the most dominant car anyone has ever seen. At least until this Sunday.

Shiftin' Down

David Green: Didn't even run in 125-mile qualifier when it became apparent that his car was slower than its owner, Jackie Joyner Kersee.

Viagra: The No. 27 car, driven by Jeff Fuller and sponsored by the love drug, couldn't stay up with the leaders and failed to make the race.

Michael Waltrip: Flipped like Mary Lou Retton on Saturday in the Busch race, then almost got airborne again on Sunday. Still, give him some serious props for walking away from Saturday's wreck and driving to Happy Hour a few hours later.
