Day 3 Stirring up a storm of excitementPosted: Wednesday March 29, 2000 07:57 PM
I knew this week was going to be a whirlwind, but I didn’t think I’d be hiding from a tornado! Last night, while my dad and I were making an appearance at a Sprint PCS store, we got a warning that a tornado was headed our way. We were only fifteen minutes into signing autographs for the hundreds of fans that were in line when we had to evacuate. The Sprint crew helped fans find shelter in a couple of empty stores in the strip mall we were at. My dad and I waited out the storm in a back room at the Sprint PCS store. It became obvious that we were going to have to cancel the event, so my dad and I signed a bunch of autographs from the back room, then had someone hand them out to the fans. This helped pass the time and we were glad to help the fans out. We didn’t want them to leave disappointed. It was definitely a memorable night, to say the least. When we finally made it back to our hotel, we heard that the tornado had struck downtown Fort Worth. It had just missed us, and we were all very lucky to have escaped without being injured. We’re keeping all of the people in Texas in our prayers. I didn’t have much time to dwell on the crazy weather conditions with another early start today. Another 5 a.m. wake-up call. And I have a feeling the next few days are going to be the same way! I did several more interviews, but I also got to have a little fun with my dad before this weekend’s race. Amazingly enough, the weather is sunny and warm today, so we stopped by the Speedway Children’s Charity Golf Tournament to say, "Hi." We wished we could’ve played, but we had more Sprint employees and fans to meet. After stopping by the golf course, we made an appearance at two Sprint events with another scheduled for later tonight. Keep your fingers crossed that nothing crazy happens again. Tomorrow, we are off to the tracks to practice and qualify for the Busch Grand National Series race! Adam
