According to CNNSI.com motorsports insider Marty Snider, NASCAR Winston Cup team owner Felix Sabates has agreed in priniciple to the sale of 80 percent of team Sabco Racing to Chip Ganassi, who teams have won the last four CART championships.

Ganassi, owner of Target/Chip Ganassi Racing, will take over day-to-day operation of Team Sabco on July 1. Target Ganassi Racing will continue to run the Juan Montoya and Jimmy Vasser cars on the CART circuit.

Sabates will continue to own 20 percent of the team, which runs the No. 40 car of Sterling Marlin and the No. 42 car driven by Kenny Irwin. The three Sabco Busch Series teams will be disbanded at the end of the season.

Target will join both Marlin and Irwin teams as an associate sponsor after July 1.

The sale is expected to be completed in the next two weeks.

There is speculation that the sale could bring about a manufacturer change at the end of the season. The team currently runs Chevrolets.
