Time for healing Doohan says he won't be testing this offseasonPosted: Sunday November 07, 1999 02:30 PM
LONDON (Reuters) -- Former 500cc motorcycling world champion Mick Doohan will meet Honda bosses in Japan early next week to discuss his grand prix future. "I'm off to Honda's head office in Tokyo and then to HRC (Honda Racing Corporation) early next week," the Australian five-time world champion said. "Basically, I'll be seeing the Japanese about what the structure is for next year. Obviously, we've got to discuss whether I'll continue to ride or at least get the wheels spinning to see what else we might be doing." Doohan, who was sidelined for most of the season after injuring himself in a crash in Spain in May, said he would complete a couple of slow demonstration laps at the Motegi circuit during a round of the Japanese superbike championship. He will then head back to Europe to attend award functions in Spain and Austria on November 11 and 19 respectively. The Australian said his movements after that depended on his decision about next season. "If I'm not riding, I won't be attending any off-season tests. And realistically if I am riding next year I won't start testing until January."
