Suzuki moved to the U.S. after a nine-year stint with the Orix Blue Wave of the Japanese Pacific League, joining the Mariners and becoming the first position player from Japan in major league history. He won his second AL batting title in 2004 when he hit .372. His 262 hits that season broke George Sisler's long-standing single-season record of 257. He earns it by just a shade over Randy Johnson.
