2012
Nail Yakupov, RW, Edmonton Oilers
For the third straight year the Oilers owned the draft's top pick, and for the third straight year they selected a prospect to boost their frontline. The Oilers took 18-year-old Nail Yakupov with the No. 1 overall pick, making him the first Russian-born player to go first since Alex Ovechkin in 2004. Yakupov scored 31 goals in 42 games last season for the Sarnia Sting of the Ontario Hockey League.
No. 2: Ryan Murray, D, Columbus Blue Jackets
