Maurice "Rocket" Richard
The Canadiens' Hall of Famer got his moniker in 1942 after teammate Ray Getliffe remarked during a practice that Richard skated like a rocket. The comment was overheard by Montreal Gazette sportswriter Dink Carroll, who began calling Richard ''The Rocket'' in his stories. The nickname was fitting, as Richard was a devastating goal-scorer who played with an intense glare on his face.
