2011: Atlanta Thrashers become Winnipeg ?
Nearly 20 years after the Atlanta Flames left the Peachtree State for Calgary, hockey returned to Atlanta in 1999 as the Thrashers began their inaugural season. The team struggled on the ice, making the playoffs once (2006-07, when they were swept in first round by Rangers) while attendance continued to lag. On Tuesday, it was announced that True Sports North and Entertainment purchased the franchise and will relocate to Winnipeg, former home of the Jets. No announcement has been made about the new name of the team.
