The 2000 Davis Cup proved to be one of the most exciting and unpredictable competitions in years, with soap operas surrounding some of the top teams. The U.S. team suffered when Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi skipped out claiming mysterious injuries. Defending champion Australia nearly fell in the opening round, but recovered to reach the finals once again.
