Week two of the U.S. Open in Flushing Meadows, New York proved to be more exciting than the first. On the women’s side, the first All-American final since 1979 took place between Venus Williams and Lindsay Davenport. Venus claimed the title her sister, Serena, won last year with a straight sets win. The hard-hitting women’s final was equally matched in the men’s championship, which featured two of the biggest servers in the game. Upstart Russian Marat Safin defeated 13-time Grand Slam champion Pete Sampras in straight sets for his first Grand Slam title.
