Hy Peskin, Sports Illustrated's first staff photographer and one of the icons of the industry, died Friday. Here is a collection of some of Peskin's most indelible images from the pages of SI and Life.

Peskin was able to position himself behind Ben Hogan and capture the famous 1-iron shot on the 72nd hole of the 1950 U.S. Open.
