For more than half a century, you couldn’t attend the Kentucky Derby or the Olympics without running into legendary Sports Illustrated photographer Jerry Cooke, who passed away at age 84 on Oct. 27. His pictures appeared on the cover of SI 47 times, and his work also appeared in Life, Time, Fortune, National Geographic and Paris Match. His pictures are in permanent collections in museums in the U.S. and Europe. On the following pages are some of his classic photographs.
