Entering the 2000 Olympic Summer Games, Romania always finished behind Russia in women’s gymnastics, except in 1984, when the Soviet Union didn’t participate because of a boycott. But the Romanians finally broke through at the Superdome to take the gold away from Russia and end years of disappointment.
