Entering the men’s and women’s 100-meter dash, both Marion Jones and Maurice Greene made boasts that they would win their respective races at the Sydney Olympics. The Americans were heavily favored to dominate the field, and they did. Jones jumped out to an insurmountable lead to easily win the women’s race, while Greene held off challenger Ato Boldon from Trinidad & Tobago to take the men’s gold medal.
