A total of 12 medals were handed out on the first day as the Salt Lake City Games started with a bang. Medals were awarded in cross country skiing, men’s 5,000m speed skating and women’s moguls skiing. The day was capped off with a Dave Mathews concert in Olympic Medal Plaza.
