Nail Yakupov, RW, Edmonton Oilers

For the third straight year the Oilers owned the draft's top pick, and for the third straight year they selected a prospect to boost their frontline. The Oilers took 18-year-old Nail Yakupov with the No. 1 overall pick, making him the first Russian-born player to go first since Alex Ovechkin in 2004. Yakupov, who scored 31 goals in 42 games for the Sarnia Sting of the OHL in 2011-12, put up 17 goals and 31 points for as an Oilers rookie during the 2013 lockout-shortened season.
