KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) -- Scoring a perfect 10.00 from the Malaysian judge for his reverse 1 1/2 somersault, 13-year-old Alexandre Despatie won the Commonwealth Games men's platform diving gold medal for Canada by a huge margin Sunday. With only one comparative failure in round three, Despatie strung together a series of consistent scores for a total of 652.110 points to take the gold. Robert Newbery of Australia totaled 605.610 for the silver, just ahead of England's Leon Taylor, who had 603.540. Canada also triumphed on the women's 3-meter springboard with Eryn Bulmer edging Chantelle Michell of Australia and another Canadian, Myriam Boileau, taking the bronze. Bulmer totaled 515.880 after her five dives, with Michell scoring 506.520 and Boileau 480.570. They were Canada's only two golds of the diving competition compared with Australia's three and one for Zimbabwe. Australia's gold-winning Shannon Roy reported his medal stolen Sunday and believed it had been taken just hours after he had won the 3-meter springboard title Saturday. It's only a material thing and the title is still mine, he said. I'm in the history books but it's just the fact that someone would take something so special.
