Such a wonderful feeling

There were so many tears by so many tough guys. This is such a wonderful feeling. Winning this game is great because our country takes such great pride in baseball. It's something special. I was in Atlanta when we received the bronze four years ago, and now I am in Sydney to see us win the gold. It's very difficult to describe because it's such a proud moment. You always want to do well when you represent your country. With Tommy Lasorda as the head coach it gave the entire team added incentive to win him a gold medal. He is such a legend in baseball and it's been tremendous being around him. I have learned so much from this staff, from this group of guys. It makes me love the sport of baseball even more. I'm here as a coach because of our program at USC, my coaches and former players. I have had some great moments in baseball this year. The SEC title, 56 wins with the Gamecocks, some great players on a great team. Kip Bouknight was named the SEC Athlete of the Year and also the National Player of the Year. Being named National Coach of the Year was also an honor. This is the best way to end the 2000 baseball season. I can't wait to get back to Columbia and get back to work with my team. We will be ready in 2001. I am thankful for all the wonderful moments in 2000." I know everyone back in Columbia is just thrilled for both the USA team and Adam Everett. He is so deserving of a gold medal because he played his heart out and he is a class act. Just a wonderful human being from a super family. Adam is the first gold medalist from the University of South Carolina. What a huge honor for such a talented young man.
