SYDNEY, Australia (CNNSI.com) -- David Douillet ended the his 2000 Olympic experience the same way he did in 1996 -- with a gold medal.

The Frenchman won the men's 100-plus kilogram, defeating Shinichi Shinohara of Japan. Tamerlan Tmenov of Russia and Indrek Pertelson of Estonia shared the bronze.

Yuan Hua of China took the women's 78-plus kilogram event by beating Daima Mayelis Beltran of Cuba. Mayumi Yamashita of Japan and Kim Seon-Young of South Korea shared the bronze.

Japan made a mini comeback in the Sydney Games with four golds overall compared to three at Atlanta. The most memorable victory was by Ryoko Tamura, who finally won Olympic gold after settling for silver in the two previous games.

France, which won three golds four years ago, ended up with just two this time as Marie-Claire Restoux, a 1996 winner, failed to make the team.

Cuba and China also had two golds each. Turkey, Spain, Italy and the Netherlands all gained one each.
