U.S. sprinter Marion Jones, a two-time world champion in the 100 meters, was seeking to become the first U.S. track and field athlete to win five gold medals at one Olympics. Jones ended up with three golds and two bronzes, a record total for a female track and field athlete. Jones won the 100 and 200 meters and ran the third leg on the winning 4x400-meter relay at Sydney. Jones was third in the long jump and was on the bronze-medal winning 4x100-meter relay team.

Postrace Analysis:
No doubt about it. Marion Jones got off to strong start and accelerated through the turn. She then cruised down the straightaway well ahead of the field and slowed up as she crossed the finish line.
