After scoring their best-ever results at this year's European Championships with six gold medals, Italy's swimmers are looking to score big at the 2000 Games.

"It's the first time we are going to the Olympics with this many athletes who have a chance of winning," says coach Alberto Castagnetti. "Let's hope the Olympic adventure will bring positive results."

The country's top contender is Massimiliano Rosolino, who is looking forward to taking on the world. A front crawl and medley specialist, Rosolino will have a few mixed feelings in Australia, his mother's birthplace. But the 22-year old is looking to put a disappointing showing at the Atlanta gGames behind him.

"Four years ago, I was still quite young," Rosolino says. "I had just turned 18. This year I hope to go a little bit better because it's going to be in Australia where my mother was born. I have to go really fast. Even against Australians."

The big test at the Games for the Italian swimmers will be competing against the United States, Australia and Canada, tougher opponents than their European counterparts.
