Alexander Popov Popov strikes a victory pose after winning the 100-meter freestyle final at the European Championships in July. Ross Kinnaird/Allsport

Legend in waiting

Wednesday may not be the best day to avoid the Olympics -- you'll probably miss history in the making. Russia's Alexander Popov already holds world records in the 50- and 100-meter freestyle. Now, he has a chance to be an Olympic legend: With a gold in the 100, Popov will become the only man to win the same swimming event in three Olympics. NBC provides 8 1/2 hours of coverage, with the spotlight on Popov and the men's gymnastics all-around final.
