Michael Johnson Michael Johnson, shown above winning the 400 meters during the 1996 Games, is set to defend his medal Monday night in Sydney. Gray Mortimore/Allsport

Man of steel

In 1996, they called him the "fastest man alive." On Monday, America's gold-shoed superman should be in position to further justify his nickname. Michael Johnson, the world record holder in the 400 meters, takes to the Olympic track to defend his gold medal -- and his standing as one of track's legends. Catch Johnson's race, along with the women's 400, individual gymnastics finals and women's tennis semifinals on NBC. Daytime coverage airs from 10 a.m. to noon ET/PT, and resumes at 7 p.m. for five hours.
