Lisa Fernandez Lisa Fernandez prepares to pitch against the St. Louis All Stars en route to throwing her fifth straight perfect game of the summer. Elsa Hasch/Allsport

Diamonds and gold

If the U.S. softball team has its way, a gold medal repeat will be on the line Tuesday night in Sydney. And if the scenario plays out, expect to see Lisa Fernandez & co. in the limelight of Olympic evening television. NBC takes to the air for its weekday standard 8 1/2 hours -- in the morning from 10 a.m. to noon, prime-time coverage from 7 p.m. to midnight, as well as a 12:30-2 a.m. nightcap. Softball isn't the only team sport of note, however, as men's soccer semifinals heat up with the likes of Brazil and Italy.
