SALT LAKE CITY (Reuters) -- Security officials evacuated people in the seating area of the E Center arena on Thursday after a suspicious parcel was found following the Olympic gold medal women's ice hockey game between Canada and the United States.

Security officials would not give any further details but police with sniffer dogs could be seen combing one area of the mezzanine level.

The post-game news conference, held in the lower portion of the building, was interrupted briefly but allowed to continue.

However, all reporters, ushers and clean-up crew in the seating area of the arena were forced to leave.

Some 30 minutes earlier, Canada had defeated the United States 3-2 before a sold-out crowd of 10,000.
