Canadian Veronica Brenner, 26, is considered a veteran in the sport of freestyle skiing. The aerialist was a member of the 1998 Canadian Olympic team and won the 1997 World Cup title. Brenner, a native of Scarborough, Ontario, missed the past World Cup season after tearing her ACL but is back on track to make the 2002 Olympic team. Check out Brenner's diary on CNNSI.com as she prepares for Salt Lake City.

September 25, 2001

The tragic events of last week changed our lives. This week, as the world picks up the pieces, husbands learn to live without their wives, children cope with the loss of a parent, travelers hesitate before stepping onto an airplane and millions struggle to make sense out of a senseless and barbaric act, life goes on.

As I watched the horror of terrorism unfold on my television, jumping, training, the Olympics -- my dreams -- seemed so insignificant and frivolous.

When the shock began to wear off, I, no doubt along with countless others, hoped for some good to come out of so much bad.

And I have seen a lot of good. The generosity and support of Americans to their fellow Americans has been overwhelming. The international community quickly came forward to help and has shown incredible compassion.

There has been a lot of talk about going on with life, despite the grief and disbelief. Still, I felt guilty training for sport, for pursuing such a selfish goal at a time like this. It came to me, however, that this is exactly how I should go on with my life. This is something good we can do, a way to pay tribute to the people who lost their lives.

Strive to be happy. Do what you've always wanted to do. Do whatever it is you've been putting off until the time is right, putting off until you have less work to do. Do whatever it is you've been putting off for so long that you forget why. So go on, phone an old friend you haven't heard from in a while, spend more time with your children, volunteer, travel around the world, find a job you enjoy, love someone. Do it now, do it with passion, and do it while you still can. Live your dreams. Live your dreams for yourself and live them for the thousands who can no longer live theirs.

"In the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years." --Abraham Lincoln
